How to play Dewspout

A visual guide · Measure your first garden in two moves

Your goal

Measure a little dew. Grow another garden.

Match all three vessels to their targets at the same time. Fill, empty and pour to make exact portions. There is no clock and no final garden, so take your time and Bank whenever you are ready to finish.

Garden 1 · StartA0/3Target 0B0/5Target 0C0/8Target 5

A simplified teaching diagram of the real first garden. A holds 3 drops, B holds 5 and C holds 8. The targets are 0, 0 and 5 drops.

01Fill B

One full vessel

Move 1 · Fill BA0/3Target 0B5/5Target 0C0/8Target 5
Choose B, then Fill B. Filling always takes a vessel to its capacity. This is move 1: A has 0 drops, B has 5 and C has 0.

Click or tap a vessel to choose it. Press 1, 2 or 3 to choose A, B or C on a keyboard, F to fill and E to empty. Escape clears your selection. Tab, Enter and Space also work with the buttons. Choosing or cancelling a vessel costs no moves.

02Pour B into C

All targets match together

Move 2 · B into CA0/3Target 0B0/5Target 0C5/8Target 5
With B selected, choose C to pour. All 5 drops fit in C, so B becomes empty. A stays empty. The first garden is complete in 2 moves, which matches its Par of 2.
  • The large amount and capacity show how much is inside and how much fits. Target is the exact amount to finish with.
  • Zero means empty. A Just right label means that vessel matches its target.
  • A matching vessel can still be used. The garden finishes only when all three targets match together.

03Use what a pour leaves behind

A smaller vessel makes a remainder

B into A · 2 leftA3/3Target 0B2/5Target 0C0/8Target 5
A separate teaching example from an empty garden: Fill B, then pour B into A. A can hold only 3 drops. The pour stops with A full and 2 drops left in B, after 2 moves. This does not complete Garden 1.
  • A pour stops when the source is empty or the destination is full. You cannot stop it halfway.
  • Empty removes all the water from the selected vessel. Fill, Empty and a valid pour each use one move.
  • An empty source, full destination or already full Fill cannot make a move. Selection and waiting are free.

Restart Garden empties all three vessels, keeps your earlier moves and adds one move. For example, Fill B uses move 1, then Restart Garden leaves empty vessels at move 2. The targets and Par stay the same.

04Keep growing, then Bank

Careful measuring earns a bonus

Garden complete!Par 2 · Moves 2+270 pointsNext Garden or Bank
The real first solution earns 270 points. Par is the fewest possible moves. Every completed garden earns points, and finishing near Par keeps more of its bonus.
  • A garden earns 100 points plus 10 times its Par, with a 150 point bonus. Each move above Par reduces that bonus by 15, down to zero. For Par 7 in 9 moves, that is 290 points.
  • Next Garden brings empty vessels and a new target. Its move counter starts at 0, while your score stays with you. Later gardens change capacities and repeat a continuing difficulty cycle.
  • Bank ends the whole run with the points from completed gardens. An unfinished garden adds no points. After the first clear, even banking partway through Garden 2 keeps your 270 points.
  • You can Bank before completing a garden too. When you finish, use Play Again for a fresh run or Menu to return to the games.
